Jay Kloppenberg, Co-Founder & CEO
Jay Kloppenberg began developing the idea for African School for Excellence while working for AfriCap Microfinance Investment Company in Johannesburg in 2010.
Moved by the tremendous accomplishments of low-income South Africans with access to elite education and cognisant of the vast unrealised potential among township youth, Mr. Kloppenberg worked to devise a solution to provide replicable, elite-quality secondary education to low-income students.
Prior to his work at AfriCap, Mr. Kloppenberg was a consultant at McKinsey & Company in New York and Johannesburg. He also previously lived in Senegal.
Mr. Kloppenberg holds a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Amherst College (Massachusetts, USA), and an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France & Singapore). He is fluent in English and French.
